At a dinner party one should eat wisely but not too well, and speak well but not too wisely.

about

John DeMers, a native of New Orleans, figures he was destined to cover the food beat after growing
up with parents who debated recipes at the kitchen table every night while sipping Dixie Beer.
His fate was sealed, however, by eating his way through 126 countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and
the Caribbean - mostly in pursuit of news stories that had nothing to do with food or wine.
The author of 24 published books, John spent several years as the food editor of United Press International
(UPI) and later successfully launched two food and wine magazines in the Gulf South, EasyFood and
CoastFood. Along the way, he also covered restaurants for New Orleans magazine, served up a weekly food
report for "Steppin' Out" on WYES-TV and hosted a daily food radio show on WTIX. That show evolved into
one co-hosted with Rhonda Findley on WBYU, and that evolved into Delicious Mischief on WGSO. It was their
Delicious Mischief that expanded to KBME in Houston in early 2002.
John came to Houston to serve as food editor of the
Houston Chronicle. Also, as though in another life, John wrote five produced one-person dramas, touring
the country in two of them, "I, Paul" and "Mr. Jefferson's Garden."
