Ruby Red

I think the following cocktail encountered in El Paso as a “Texas planters punch.” As crafted by Jorge Palas at the bar called Liquid at Fire, part of the downtown Doubletree Hotel, it definitely delivers the refreshment associated with drinks throughout the Caribbean.

1 ounce Absolut vodka

1 ounce Bacardi white rum

½ ounce amaretto di Saronno

½ ounce peach schnapps

1 ounce ruby red grapefruit juice

1 ounce pineapple juice

1 ounce cranberry juice

1 ounce Spite

Orange twist and cherry for garnish

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes and pour in the vodka, rum, amaretto and schnapps. Then pour in the fruit juices and Sprite. Cover the glass with a shaker and shake briefly, just until liquids combined and frothy. Garnish with orange twist and cherry. Makes 1 drink.
